Charles Wood Despatch (1854):

• It came in the reign of Dalhousie (1848-56).
• Chairman: Charles Wood.
• It is known as the Magna Carta of English Education in India.
• He was the President of the Board of Control.
• In 1854 he sent a despatch to Lord Dalhousie, the then Governor-General of India.
• Wood’s despatch suggested that primary schools must  Adopt vernacular languages such as Sanskrit and Persian.
• Through the despatch, he also suggested that high schools use anglo-vernacular medium and that English should be the medium for college-level education.

Recommendations:

• The government should promote Western education, Arts, Philosophical education & literature.
• The medium of higher education should be English & Vernaculars at the school level.
• To promote intellectual development to raise the moral character of the youth. 
• To develop practical & vocational skills of the people.
• It recommended the creation of a Department of Public Instruction in each of the five provinces of Bengal, Bombay, Madras, Punjab and the North-Western provinces. 
• It recommended the establishment of universities at Calcutta, Bombay and Madras.
• It recommended the sanction of a grant-in-aid system in the Indian educational system.
• It stressed female education.
• To establish teacher training schools in each of the provinces. 
• To establish a network of graded schools all over the country.

चार्ल्स वुड डिस्पैच (1854) :

• यह डलहौजी (1848-56) के शासनकाल में आया था।
• अध्यक्ष: चार्ल्स वुड।
• इसे भारत में अंग्रेजी शिक्षा के मैग्ना कार्टा  के रूप में जाना जाता  है ।
• वे नियंत्रण बोर्ड के अध्यक्ष थे।
• 1854 में उन्होंने भारत के तत्कालीन गवर्नर-जनरल लॉर्ड डलहौजी को एक डिस्पैच भेजा ।
• वुड के प्रेषण ने सुझाव दिया कि प्राथमिक विद्यालयों को  संस्कृत और फारसी जैसी स्थानीय भाषाओं को अपनाना  चाहिए।
• प्रेषण के माध्यम से, उन्होंने यह भी सुझाव दिया कि हाई स्कूल एंग्लो-वर्नाक्यूलर माध्यम का उपयोग करते हैं और कॉलेज स्तर की शिक्षा के लिए अंग्रेजी माध्यम होना चाहिए।
