NTA UGC NET JRF 2021 Syllabus for Paper 1 & All Subject

UGC NET Syllabus 2021: The National Testing Agency has released UGC NET Notification for December 2020 Cycle (May 2021) on the official website.

Candidates appearing for the exam should have clear understanding of the UGC NET Syllabus 2021 for better preparation. UGC NET exam consists of two papers namely; Paper I and II where the Paper I syllabus is common and Paper-II Syllabus is as per the selection made by the candidate.

Candidates can choose the subject of his/her post-graduation or a related subject. A total of 81 subjects are available in the UGC NET Paper-II syllabus. Understanding the NET Exam Syllabus and Exam Pattern will help candidates to plan effective strategies in order to crack the exam.

The UGC NET 2021 Syllabus of Paper I consists of Teaching Aptitude, Research Aptitude, Reading Comprehension, Communication, Reasoning (including Mathematics), Logical Reasoning, Data Interpretation, Information & Communication Technology (ICT), People & Environment, and Higher Education System: Governance, Polity & Administration

In Paper II, candidates have to select any 1 subject (out of 81 subjects). UGC NET Exam tests the eligibility of Indian Nationals for ‘Assistant Professor’ or for ‘Junior Research Fellowship and Assistant Professor’ in Indian Universities and Colleges.

The UGC NET Paper I Syllabus is intended to assess the teaching/ research aptitude of candidates. Paper I exam is common to all applicants and it tests reasoning ability, reading comprehension, divergent thinking and general awareness of the candidate. The main objective is to assess the teaching and research capabilities of the candidates. The test aims at assessing the teaching and research aptitude. Candidates are expected to possess and exhibit cognitive abilities, which include comprehension, analysis, evaluation, understanding the structure of arguments, deductive and inductive reasoning.

The candidates are also expected to have a general awareness of teaching and learning processes in the higher education system. Further, they should be aware of the interaction between people, environment, natural resources and their impact on the quality of life.

Here is the detailed UGC NET 2021 Paper I Syllabus:

I. Teaching Aptitude

  1. Teaching : Nature, objectives, characteristics and basic requirements;
  2. Learner’s characteristics;
  3. Factors affecting teaching;
  4. Methods of teaching;
  5. Teaching aids;
  6. Evaluation systems.

II. Research Aptitude

  1. Research: Meaning, characteristics and types;
  2. Steps of research
  3. Methods of research;
  4. Research Ethics;
  5. Paper, article, workshop, seminar, conference and symposium
  6. Thesis writing: its characteristics and format.

III. Reading Comprehension

A passage to be set with questions to be answered.

IV. Communication

Communication Nature, characteristics, types, barriers and effective classroom communication.

V. Reasoning (Including Mathematical)

  1. Number series; letter series; codes;
  2. Relationships; classification.

VI. Logical Reasoning

  1. Understanding the structure of arguments;
  2. Evaluating and distinguishing deductive and inductive reasoning;
  3. Verbal analogies: Word analogy — Applied analogy;
  4. Verbal classification;
  5. Reasoning Logical Diagrams: Simple diagrammatic relationship, multi-diagrammatic relationship;
  6. Venn diagram; Analytical Reasoning.

VII. Data Interpretation

  1. Sources, acquisition and interpretation of data;
  2. Quantitative and qualitative data;
  3. Graphical representation and mapping of data.

VIII. Information and Communication Technology (ICT)

  1. ICT : meaning, advantages, disadvantages and uses;
  2. General abbreviations and terminology;
  3. Basics of internet and e-mailing.

IX. People and Environment

  1. People and environment interaction;
  2. Sources of pollution;
  3. Pollutants and their impact on human life, exploitation of natural and energy resources;
  4. Natural hazards and mitigation

X. Higher Education System: Governance, Polity and Administration

Structure of the institutions for higher learning and research in India: formal and distance education professional/technical and general education; value education: governance, polity, and administration; concept, institutions and their interactions.
